Memphis - After the (now) customary stop at Costco to fill up gas, we were off to Nashville. This is where we left Highway 55 which had been with us from Urbana-Champaign thru Chicago and St.Louis to Memphis. We got on to Highway 40 which would be with us till Greensboro. Uneventful short drive of four hours and we were in Nashville before 5pm.
This time staying at an AirBnB as we were planning on three nights in Nashville. We had scored tickets to a show in the Grand Ole Opry for Tuesday night, so the extra night in Nashville.
We settled in with Girnar Chai, and as the evening was just starting, decided to Lyft it to downtown. We were less then two miles from the action area of downtown - Broadway. Super quick Lyft (less than $8) and are dropped off near Hard Rock Cafe. Well, if you have seen the strip on Las Vegas in the night and were struck by the craziness of the people, then it's very similar. There are no spectacular sights like musical fountains or pirates on a ship like Vegas, but the people (majority youth) drinking and partying is very similar. No wonder they call downtown #NashVegas. Along with the pictures will try to upload a video... (first time in the blog). Had to split into two because of size restrictions...
Unlike Vegas, there's live music everywhere, every bar / hotel / door opening has a singer or live band belting out music inside. And it's not just country crooning going on, it's a blend of everything - jazz, soul, r&b, pop, rock - all popular western genre's. And the waiting for a table or seat in any of these places is anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours. We managed to grab a couple of seats at a bar and had a drink with dinner - fried green tomatoes and jambalaya.
Then on the street, up and down enjoying the music, till we decided to call it a day and Lyft back.
