The Start of it All
April 1, 2018
While we love the Bay Area and have been here upwards of 24 years, early this year (2018), Madhu and I concluded that the Bay Area had become too crowded and expensive to retire in. We started exploring various options and eight months into the year we still have not been able to decide on a place. So, what better way than a drive from the West to the East? While it was just a germ of an idea a few months back, once we got down to the trenches to plan the details it just flowed. We just did not want to go from point A to point B to point C and so on exploring communities. We decided to make it a fun trip also. So we set about some guidelines (not rules)...
Driving will average 4 hours or 250 miles a day and only in extreme cases, a maximum of 6 hours or 360 miles for that day. Plus we will try to take in as many sights as possible on the way.
With these guidelines - and with the trusty Google MyMaps, we set about planning the trip. We split the trip into two parts - Leg 1 and Leg 2. Leg 1 covers the National Parks in the West and Leg 2 takes us across the mid West into Florida.
Now all we need to do is decide on the start date - currently targeted for September 11th.
