Day 03 - Death Valley

Panamint Springs Resort - A rustic cross between log cabin and glamping tent, there's space for just one queen bed and a dresser unit.  No table or chair.  Attached restaurant is the only place for any food - and the general store next door is a store plus gas station - with unleaded at $4.98 a gallon.

Our route today is 190 East, 373 North, 95 East, NV County 215 West, 15 North.  On 190, we did a couple of branch tours to do some sightseeing - like Badwater Basin, Artists Drive, Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Dante's View, etc.

Flash flood damaged road closings and road repairs prevented us from going to the Charcoal Kilns and Ubehebe Crater.  But still the colorful hillocks on Artists Drive, being 282 feet below sea level at Badwater Basin, the out of place Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes and the breathtaking view's of Death Valley from Dante's Viev point more than made up for the missed sites.

With a range of 430 miles, and 200 miles already driven - I figured we should be able to cross Death Valley and gas up on the other side.  I did not factor in the 100 miles we would drive on all offshoot branches from 190 to visit Badwater Basin, Dante's View Point, Artist's Drive, etc.  So much so, once we were back on the 190 highway, I was literally counting miles!

We stopped on the way for a delicious lunch at the LongStreet Inn & Casino - just after we crossed into Nevada, and with just 20miles left on the vehicle pulled into the Fort Amargosa gas station to fill up.  The Chevron oppositte had gas that was basically half-a-dollar more per gallon.  And with 30 plus gallons to fill - that's a nice lunch!

Reached our destination St. George, UT, after passing through Nevada and Arizona!
