No Costco anwhere near here so filled up gas up at a Philips66 in Torrey. Also picked up coffee and packed lunch as today's an all driving day going through the Capital Reef National Park and the Canyonlands National Park (Island in the Sky), driving on another of Utah's Scenic Byway's - "Capitol Reef Country Scenic Byway" - UT24. We took the 10 mile (each way) scenic drive side trip off the Capital Reef National Park Visitor Center and enjoyed the views all around. Among the interesting view points were the Petroglyphs - which is an image carved, incised or scratched into stone with no paints or pigments involved; and the Big Mesa View Point.
What more can I say about these amazing views and sights - I have run out of adjectives. The State of Utah is really blessed with these magnificent and amazing natural geological formations that are a such a joy to witness.
UT24 took us onto Highway I70 from which we headed south on UT191 towards Moab and Arches National Park, which is a visit planned for tomorrow. On the way we take UT313 to visit the Canyonlands National Park (Island in the Sky) - the first park where the Ranger at the entrance checks both the Annual National Park Pass and my Driver's License to make sure the signatures match. This was a 80 mile round-trip from UT191 and took us more than 4 hours to complete - taking little hikes to see the Mesa Arch, Green River Overlook & Shafer Canyon Overlook to see the Backway mining and cattle trail roads.
We reach Moab after sunset and have dinner at a nice and "happening" Thai place called Arches Thai. Excellent food but pricey!
Day Stats: approx 300 miles (including the side trips)
